I have played with the DSO for more than 15 yrs. It is a community orchestra with a professional core and it provides around 8 concerts a year.
Last Friday, we performed at the Darwin Gardens Amphitheatre with a Led Zeppelin tribute band – the Zep Boys, who were the epitome of musicianship and professionalism. The DSO includes a concert featuring popular/rock music every year, and they are very well attended. This year saw a crowd in the thousands and it is quite something to play to a crowd who are up on their feet dancing and singing along with the songs they know and love so well. Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog and Kashmir were amongst the many classic songs.
The orchestral parts were great to play with interesting cello lines. The music itself has interesting form, harmonies and rhythms. I had such a great time.
