My new work Dysdiadochokinesis was premiered by the Australian Doctors Orchestra on Sunday, June 19th 2016 at the Darwin Convention Centre, Darwin, NT. It is for full symphony orchestra 3(1 picc),2,2,3(1 contra);4,3,3,1; timp+4 perc, harp, (optional celesta) and strings.
It is available through The Australian Music Centre on the following link: http://www.australianmusiccentre.com.au/workversion/applegate-cathy-dysdiadochokinesis/31055
It was conducted by Matthew Wood.
It is a fun 6 minute work that functions as a Fanfare or Overture. I have referenced Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, as these were the composers that featured in the Music from Moscow concert.
The title of the work is taken from a neurological term that means ‘difficulty with rapidly repeated movements’. So, of course, I challenged the players in this regard. I also put a few neurological terms throughout the score.
Dysdiadochokinesis – score and parts are available from the Australian Music Centre website.
