The work was recorded by the DSO.

This work was commissioned by the APA Group to mark the opening of the Bonaparte Gas Pipeline in 2009. This pipeline connects the Eni plant near the Aboriginal community of Wadeye to Ban Ban Springs Station in the Top End of the Northern Territory, Australia, a distance of 280km. The source of the gas is the Blacktip field located offshore in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf.

The work was premièred by the Darwin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martin Jarvis in 2009, at Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

It was performed again by the DSO in 2010 at the CDU theatre conducted by Leif Sundstrup.

The request from the APA Group was that the work be in three movements, each movement reflecting the various stages of the project:

  1. The Planning and Negotiation Phase. Many people were involved in the planning of this massive project including Engineers, Ecologists, Archaeologists and Traditional Aboriginal Owners.
  1. The Construction Phase. Typical equipment used in the construction included heavy earthmoving machinery/vehicles as well as specialist equipment such as machines that bend pipes.
  1. The Commissioning and Operations Phase. This movement celebrates the completion of the project as the pipeline is used for the very first time.
